Dear 7th grade,

Please hold control and using your mouse click…

http://phet.colorado.edu/

This is an awesome website with science simulations that you can control and manipulate. Not everything is going to make 100% sense but just by interacting with and experiencing these you are getting a better understanding of what is happening at the molecular level (meaning really zoomed in).

Please look at:

Masses and Springs

Build an Atom

Density

Forces and Motion

Friction

Gravity Force

Ramp: Forces and Motion

States of Matter

Build a Molecule

pH Scale

Sugar and Salt Solutions

Please write down two activities that you did that made sense and 2 that you did that did not and why in your notebook.

Have a good day!

Miss you all,

8th Grade Earthquake

Dear 8th graders,

Nice work on Friday on your buildings. Below please complete the activities and read the articles on earthquakes and earthquake proof architecture.

First read: http://articles.cnn.com/2010-03-02/tech/earthquake.resistant.building_1_building-codes-powerful-earthquake-chile?_s=PM:TECH

Then make a quake at: http://tlc.discovery.com/convergence/quakes/interactives/makeaquake.html

On the left hand side there are articles on links including as the world churns…

After doing this read about and watch the animation on the Japanese earthquake at http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/03/11/world/asia/maps-of-earthquake-and-tsunami-damage-in-japan.html

Finally if you read through and complete these activities go ahead and explore these two websites.

http://www.nationalgeographic.com/forcesofnature/forces/hurricanes.html (put click on earthquakes at the top, not hurricanes)

http://www.iknowthat.com/mhscience/Earthquakes/Fixed.htm

Have a great day and see you tomorrow! – Mr. L
